To start let's talk about the inconsistencies within this story: Realistically these girls know that no one on the team is tech savvy enough to create the wiki, but Camy never considers maybe Rhino??? I mean come on he has a garage full of computers he built Camy's "relationship" with Gavin there's no real interaction with them honestly besides one or two conversation?

Dork dating site - Learnovation®

The obvious romance between Camy and Rhino is completely ignored!!! Whe To start let's talk about the inconsistencies within this story: Clarissa has some vendetta against Camy that doesn't quite click with the exception of Camy dancing with Jason for 2. But magically he likes her again senior year after he gets dumped by Elle.

The fact that despite everything Camy remains friends with this ass-hat because he supposedly made the wiki to protect her after seeing a troll video? Let's not forget how the school let everything slide just because she made a speech. Then expelling anyone involved.

Which isn't wrong because this can and does happen but at the same time didn't need to be added to this story. It was trying to hard to be relate-able. Also his "protection" bit further crumbles because only the "jocks" are on this site. When in reality there's at least other boys at this school. This book also tries to play like jocks are the only ones who will say mean shit about girls behind their back. Here's a quote I feel best represents how this idea makes me feel.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. Over all I feel like this book isn't good because of what it depicts and encourages. Young girls read this stuff y'know? Sep 08, Becky rated it liked it Shelves: It wouldn't surprise me at all to find it on the big screen one day.

It's more about friendship than romance though there is a bit of romance, too , which is a nice change of pace from most YA. High school tutor Camy is surprised to find baseball star Jason "The Ab" Abernathy in the tutoring room on the first day of school. Even more surprising is what he's doing there—using Dating on the Dork Side is a book that I could easily see being made into a teen movie in the likes of Easy A or The Duff.

Even more surprising is what he's doing there—using the school computers to access a password-protected website. She's able to hack in once he leaves his password isn't particularly difficult to guess , and what she discovers turns her world upside down: After Camy alerts Elle, the school's most popular girl, to the presence of the wiki, the girls band together to get back at the boys The first two-thirds of this book is simply fantastic! It's so entertaining and, at times, unexpected. The last third isn't as strong, as the plot goes down a predictable the creator of the wiki , head-scratching the "evil" teacher who apparently goes through a personality transplant in Camy's disciplinary meeting , and unbelievable the aforementioned disciplinary meeting and its aftermath path.

I still greatly enjoyed the novel—it's quite engaging and perfect for film. I just hope that if it is ever adapted, the filmmakers tweak the ending. Aug 02, Mallika rated it liked it Shelves: I personally feel that it is a good story to be turned into a feature film, I'd watch it! The story is a page turner in the first two- thirds, but it could have been given a better treatment in the last one- third, maybe some good editing or a different ending, the last third kind of just stretches out and kills the punch that was building up.

Definitely something I would recommend to my friends! Jan 20, Suzana Thompson rated it it was amazing Shelves: I was expecting nothing more than a pleasant teen romance when I decided to read this. What I got was a surprisingly well-rounded YA story. Camy doesn't spend her entire day pining after her crush.

Her family, friendships, school, and her interests and concerns are actually given more priority than her romantic fantasies. For that reason alone, I would highly recommend this book to anyone. It's also a very entertaining story. At times it was so much fizzy fun that I sat reading it with a huge sm I was expecting nothing more than a pleasant teen romance when I decided to read this. At times it was so much fizzy fun that I sat reading it with a huge smile on my face, and even laughed out loud.

One of my favorite things about this book was the friendship between Camy and Rhino. It is definitely the most unique guy and girl friendship I have ever read about. They are two smart people who actually sound smart when they speak instead of the reader just being told that they are smart. They are also odd and socially awkward in some ways, and that comes across even in their interactions with each other.

Yet they also get each other in ways that need no words. There is both a simplicity and a complexity to their friendship that I absolutely loved. When I have read other books, I have often just been impatient to get back to the romance.

  4. Reading this made me realize that when the friendships are written with equal care instead of just being thrown in as filler, they can be just as fun and interesting to read about as the romance. The female friendships added another layer to the story, but they didn't always necessarily like each other as individuals as much as understand each other simply because they were all girls and had similar problems and concerns. To be fair, Camy's friendships with the girls were still new and tenuous compared to her long and solid friendship with Rhino.

There is a male and female divide on some issues though, which Camy found out. I liked how that wasn't glossed over or simplified so that everything could turn out perfect. It hurt and disappointed Camy greatly, but it was honestly handled in the story. Sometimes the only solution is to agree to disagree.

Part of maturing is dealing with the shattering of your illusions about people. Can you still be friends if your views are not the same on everything? There was much more substance between the hilarity and the teenage machinations for popularity and revenge than I expected to find. A fresh twist on an old theme. Dec 14, Jennifer rated it it was amazing. I wasn't in the mood for a YA novel, but this was next on my to-read pile, so Usually, I read a book in a week or so, because my reading time is really limited, but today I'm sitting here a bit bleary-eyed, as I stayed up until almost 1: I got reeled in via several characters, many plot twists and finally, just a need to know how everyone was going to grow and sift out by the ending.

And I was not disappointed at all - it w I wasn't in the mood for a YA novel, but this was next on my to-read pile, so And I was not disappointed at all - it was worth every bleary-eyed minute of today. As Camy, the protagonist well knows, this is what coffee is for. Another reviewer complained about the lack of romance - but this is part of what I loved about it. This is the story of strong young women who are more about respect and what should be due them via their accomplishments than it is a teen romance. And yes, the romance is there, too, and it's fun because most of the match-ups defy stereotypes, but it's so much MORE than that.

The real strengths I see here are the strengths of the female characters. They truly do band together, and they defy their own, and others' stereotypes of how they should act or interact with their school, with each other and with life. Also, this book has a great focus on cyber-bullying, even when the cyber-bullying may be unintentional, and how carefully teens need to tread with social media.

This is the best woman in my life, I love her so much. She is very kind, attentive, educated, loving. Masha is not mercantile and greedy. The only problem during our acquaintance was that Masha did not speak English. It was very difficult to communicate. We did not know what to do.

Camy Cavanaugh loved playing football as the only girl on the boys' football team until a knee injury sidelined her permanently. In the three years since then, she has attempted to fill her life with her beloved volunteer job as a peer tutor--in a classroom at her high school with a bird's eye view of the football team and the boy she had a huge crush on in middle school, quarterback Gavin Madison, who hasn't talked to her since her injury.

In addition to being an excellent tutor, Camy has better than average computer skills, though not as much as her computer-genius best friend, and she uses these skills to access a secret website populated with girl-bashing members of the football team. When Camy passes on information about this website to the most popular girl in school, a cheerleader and Gavin's current girlfriend, it becomes a trigger for a battle of the sexes that Camy is reluctantly drawn into the middle of.

I'm not normally a fan of chick lit, whether adult or teen versions, but this is one of the best I've ever read, for the primary reason that it is both "girl power" and "girls united" in its major themes.

Instead of a cliche "Mean Girl" cheerleader persecuting the "geeky" heroine, they become part of a team of four girls, none of which, in the normal course of events, would have ever been friends because they are very different. In fact, they are so different, it rather reminds me of the unlikely band of female friends in the popular TV series of a few years ago, "Army Wives.

Chick lit encourages girls to believe that romance is a barrier to making their most important life goals happen, that romance reduces you to something less than you can be. In contrast, the central ideal of romance is the idea of finding a true friend and task partner in life, a pairing that expands the possibilities of both partners and makes each far larger in character and accomplishment than would be possible if they were not together. Fascinatingly, this book takes these opposite contentions and satisfies both of them in one story in an extremely well-written and satisfying way.

In fact, I'd say the book is brilliantly written. I rate this book as follows: I liked Camy a lot; I'm not into football, and still found her sweetly relatable. On the other hand, there were lots of little annoyances. She wouldn't shut up about her 'Chuck Taylors'--it's always bad when authors count on brand names for character development. The enormous cast of characters was also hard to keep straight; I'm not sure I would've known what was going on without Kindle X-ray. And I was a little disappointed in the ending It didn't follow a particular cliche, and I found that I wanted it to.

I was a little disappointed Elle didn't. And I wish I'd seen more of a transformation from Rhino--a little more emotion or something. TL;DR-- It was way cute, but I ended up mildly disappointed with the characters and wishing it ended differently. One person found this helpful. I was expecting nothing more than a pleasant teen romance when I decided to read this. What I got was a surprisingly well-rounded YA story. Camy doesn't spend her entire day pining after her crush.
